We have been invited by DSA alum (Theatre Class of 2008) and former Producer for Flash Mob America, Akil LuQman, to join in a day of dance. One Billion Rising is a voice against women’s abuse and violence. Their goal with this event is to have one billion people world-wide dancing on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, and ‘change the vibration of the planet’.
This event is strictly voluntary and by no means mandatory. However, for those that would like to participate we are offering the opportunity. ALL students, faculty and staff are invited! Two rehearsals will take place during High School lunch. The first on Friday, February 8th, and the second on Tuesday, February 12th. Sophomore Dance Major, CJ, will be the point person for these rehearsals as well as the lead at the event itself.
The One Billion Rising Event at DSA will take place during High School lunch on Thursday, February 14th, in the outside Rotunda (in the case of inclement weather, other location TBA). It is approximately 4 – 5 minutes long. The event will be videotaped and posted at onebillionrising.org.
If you are unable to make a rehearsal or simply want to be able to practice at home, the links to the dance choreography demonstrated by iconic choreographer, Debbie Allen, as well as the music video and One Billion Rising’s website will be posted on DSA’s website. Have fun with it!
The following URLs will be posted on the front page of the DSA website as a ‘News Update’:
