Once again for the 2006 - 2007 school year, I teach all three Spanish 2 classes. Sr. Mora teaches Levels 1, 3 and 4. I also teach Creative Writing majors in the afternoon and the 6th grade Spanish Exploratory class. Please see the Creative Writing page for information about those classes.

EXPLORATORY SPANISH, 6TH GRADE

The nine-week exploratory program gives students a beginning foundation for future language study. Students are not expected to achieve proficiency. This class emphasizes introductory communication, basic vocabulary, culture study and comparison.

The fourth nine weeks Exploratory Spanish class began in March and finishes at the end of the school year. By the end of April, students will have learned the alphabet, two simple conversations, body and face vocabulary, colors and numbers up to 100. For May, we will continue some basic Spanish conversation and vocabulary and students will also complete a cultural exploration project. Details about the project will be available by the end of April.

The only homework for this class is learning the vocabulary as we introduce it and preparing the final project to be presented.

SPANISH 2 REQUIREMENTS

The second semester independent work day has been working smoothly. The work day is always the day their homework and speaking assignments are due, and the day students can meet individually with me for help during their regular class time. THE LAST DAY FOR MAKEUP WORK FOR THE SEMESTER IS MAY 14.

Current assignments: Students are completing Chapter 8, Second Section assignments the week of April 16 and also taking the district-required standardized assesssment. We will finish Chapter 8 assignments the week of April 23. We performed well in comparison to the rest of the district in September on the standardized assessment and I expect we'll do so again this spring. Students have a list of assignments for Chapter 8 and will receive one final list of assignments the end of April for the remainder of the school year.

We will complete Chapter 8 and portions of Chapter 9 and 10 before the end of the year. We will continue working with the two past tenses in Spanish, the preterite learned last semester and the imperfect we've learned in February and March, and add formal commands  in April and May as well.

The text is ¡Ven Conmigo! and is issued to all students. Textbooks are $55 each to replace, so take good care of it! Textbooks are returned on the last scheduled day of class. The workbook, which you should have paid for at registration with your other fees, is $12.00 and is yours to write in and keep. It is a major source of homework.

Written workbook assignments, oral activities, projects, exams, quizzes and independent reading log assignments are the major grade components. Grades are on a total points system, with tests and projects having the greatest point values. Makeup work must be turned in within one week for full credit, half credit thereafter and no credit after 30 days.

I have planning first block Black days and second block White days and am available then or after school by appointment. I check email daily at the end of the school day and try to update grades weekly.
