As a reward for excelling beyond earning an “A” in class, the DSA Department of Dance and Movement offers students the opportunity to participate in our Lettering/Certificate Program. It is a student honor to letter or certificate and is the students’ responsibility to track their progress.
Lettering/Certificate Program Requirements:
Requirements for the Lettering/Certificate program include meeting the Lettering/Certificate standards of the DSA Department of Dance and Movement and participating in related extra-curricular activities as defined by the department.
Department Standards: Students must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA for each semester in their dance class, and must participate in all of the performances listed as required by the Department of Dance and Movement Curriculum. For more information on this year’s performance requirements, please contact Mr. O’Banion.
Extra Effort: High-school students who meet the Department Standards, earn 1200 points or more, and submit the completed paperwork will receive a Denver School of the Arts Letter for Dance. Middle-school students who meet the Department Standards, earn 1000 points or more, and submit the completed paperwork will receive a Certificate of Achievement.
Lettering/Certificate points will be awarded for:
- maintenance of a high Grade Point Average
- attendance at or participation in professional or community performances
- support for the Denver School of the Arts through attendance at other departments events
- participation in extra Department of Dance and Movement after-school rehearsals and performances
- written evaluations of these events
Students who attend performances need to bring a program signed by someone involved with the performance. The idea is to encourage our students to attend performances and take time afterward to meet the performers. Usually, a brief introduction will start a discussion about the performer and the student’s interest. You would be surprised at how many performers really enjoy talking with young artists and sharing with them their enthusiasm about their art form.
