A Senior Recital is the usual offering to fulfill the requirements for
the Arts Endorsement found on our student diplomas. The recitals
are formal and are for the most part student-directed. However, great
care must be taken to ensure that the recitals are well-performed,
enjoyable for our audiences, not overly long, and generally "solid"
performances.
Here are a few guidelines to help maintain the
high quality of our student recitals. These policies reflect recital
policies found at university and conservatory levels:
1. Piano
students performing in the DSA Concert Hall will not be allowed to
charge admission for their recitals under any circumstances.
Students must defray the cost of printing of programs, receptions, etc.
If necessary, the student can duplicate programs through the piano
department, and students are encouraged to use our resources as much as
possible.
2. Students will perform in only one solo recital per year in the DSA Concert Hall. Students are encouraged, however, to perform other solo recitals utilizing the many venues found in our metro area.
3.
There should be no intermission during student recitals. Performers may
exit the stage between selections in order to rest, and audience
members can enter and exit during these periods.
4. Recitals
should consist of no more than 45 minutes of music (without repeats)
and the entire recital should last no longer than 60 minutes.
5.
As a general rule, encores should be offered only in the event that the
audience "requests" one. Students at DSA have many opportunities to
perform pieces that would normally serve as encore selections, and are
ecouraged to perform these pieces at our quarterly student recitals and
monthly convocations.
