  Weeks 1 and 2

Review of Theory, including scales, modes, chord quality, diatonic and dominant seventh chords, diminished seventh chords, augmented sixth chords, Neopolitan chords. Review of forms, including binary and rounded binary forms, ternary form, theme and variations form, rondo form, and sonata-allegro form.

Weeks 3 and 4

The music history of ancient Greece, including scales, tetrachords, doctrine of ethos, extant examples, instrumental music, heterophony. The music theory of ancient Greece including Pythagorean discoveries.

Weeks 5 and 6

The music of the early Christian church, including Gregorian chant, monophony, heterophony, and the reading of the neumes, including note groups and clef signs. Review of the church modes and the ordinary of the Mass, including Kyrie, Gloria in Excelsis, Credo, Agnus Dei, and Benedictus, and the sequence, Dies Irae.

Weeks 7 and 8

Review and final tests, prepartation for juries and recitals.
