Video Cinema Arts Audition Process

Project

The auditioning student needs to create a two-minute movie of their choice. It can be a documentary or a fiction movie. If a camcorder is not available, a photo story (10 to 12 photos) can be shot and assembled on poster board or in a binder. Each photo needs to have text below it describing the action in the photo, thus telling their story.

Due date for project only: January 4th, no later.

Preparation

Students should study: composition rules for shooting photos or video and study movie making vocabulary. There are resources online and at your local library.

The student should bring a portfolio to the audition:

    • bringing a portfolio which includes:
      • resume,
      • essay,
      • past experiences in clubs,
      • awards,
      • photos and
      • anything else that helps the judges understand the expertise and enthusiasm of the student.

The Audition

A writing assignment and a quiz is given to the student during the audition and prior to the interview.

Three judges evaluate the students' work and interview.

The interview consists of the judges viewing student's creative project and portfolio, then the student will answer a series of questions about experiences, expertise and his or her commitment in being a part of the Video Cinema Arts Program.

The students will be ranked by the outcome of their interview, written assignments, and movie or photo project.
