Treble Choir (Mr. Robert Styron, Director) 

     One of our two middle school choirs, consisting of 35 singers in the sixth and seventh grades; it is one of DSA's original choirs.  This choir focuses on vocal performance fundamentals through choral and solo music.  Repertoire is selected from an intermediate to advanced level for treble voices. Treble Choir 2008:


Allegro Voce  (Mr. Scott Shively, Director) 

     This choir consists of 22 singers in the seventh and eighth grade.  Allegro Voce are Italian words meaning "cheerful voices"; it was founded in 2006 in order to allow for the changing or changed male voice in middle school, as well to facilitate a department expansion.  Students focus on application of vocal fundamentals through intermediate level choral music written for mixed voices.  Students also receive instruction in music theory, ear training, and solo performance.  For more information regarding standards and curricular expectations, see Scope and Sequence.

Allegro Voce:


Bellissima (Mr. Robert Styron, Director) 

     Our premiere women’s choir known as Bellissima (Italian word meaning “very beautiful”) is comprised of freshman and sophomore High School women.  It was founded in 2003 as the department began one it's first expansion stages at the high school level.  This year, there are 36 singers,  who perform advanced SSA and SSAA choral music.  They also receive instruction in music theory,  music history, and solo repertoire. Bellissima 2008:


Chorale (Mr. Scott Shively, Director) 

     This mixed ensemble, known as the Chorale, consists of 41 singers.  Comprised of girls in grades eleven and twelve, and boys in grades nine through twelve, it is the original DSA high school choir founded in 1992, though until 1998, it was called the Mixed Choir.  The Chorale sings SATB choral repertoire at the advanced or collegiate level.  Students also receive instruction in music theory, music history, and solo repertoire. ELECTIVE CHOIRS

4Squared  

     Although a high school elective, this 16-voice chamber choir performs a demanding eclectic repertoire. They frequently perform at conventions, schools, special events and festivals throughout the Metro Denver area. Founded in 1999 as a chamber group from Chorale for one year, this choir eventually became an elective choir open by audition only to all high school students at DSA.  Currently, students are represented from the Band, Theater, Creative Writing, and Vocal Music departments.


MS Choir Elective  

     This vocal elective choir consists of approximately 25 singers in the sixth and seventh grades for the non-vocal major.  Curriculum focuses on both solo and ensemble singing with emphasis on vocal fundamentals and music literacy. This group is open to all middle school students from all majors, except for Vocal Music.
