Here is an overview of the materials we'll be studying this quarter. While we try to remain on schedule, the last quarter is full of interruptions and special events. We will make every attempt to accomplish these goals.

Generally, the lessons include biographical material about the composers, style characteristics of the periods discussed, and theoretical bases of the composers' works.

1. The Middle Baroque, Lully

2. The Late Baroque, Rameau, the organ and its construction and performance styles.

3. Impressionism, Debussy, Ravel, Griffes

4. The 20th Century, Prokofiev, Bartok

5. The 20th Century, Stockhausen, Cage

There will be three quizzes: one over the entire Baroque period, one over Impressionism, and one over the 20th Century.

Additionally, we will continue work on scales, modes, intervals, and chord qualities in both oral and written lessons.

After our trip in May to Canon City, we will again have student presentations to end our semester.

General grading criteria for the quarter can be found at General Grading Criteria
