Welcome back to school.

Chemistry/ChemistryX

We will be testing every 2 weeks.  These tests will be about 25 multiple choice questions with a short answer occasionally.

We will start with "Cookin' Chem" or thermochemistry.  We will divide this chapter into groups.  You will perform the lab and interpret the outcome and explain this to the rest of the class.

We will then proceed to "Ideal Toy" with gas laws and some electrochemistry.

Assignments:
1/15/08 Lab Project: performed labs were explained as well as concepts from the book: 25pts
1/22/08 Test 1: Test on basic gas laws, thermochemistry: 25 pts
1/24/08 Thermochemistry vocab worksheet: 10 pts
1/30/08 Conversion: moles, molecules and grams: 15 pts
2/1/08 Pressure/Volume lab: 15pts
2/6/08 Calorimeter group lab: 20 pts; Individual conclusions: 10 pts
2/8/08 TestII : 30 pts

4/8/08 To include in the titration lab conclusion (individual)
Justify introduction, hypothesis,purpose
Explain your procedure with specific data from lab
Discuss and explain how indicators work, your indicator (phenolpthalein), neutralization, endpoint, titration, limiting reagent, strong base with weak acid, equivalence point and bring data from lab to justify explanations.

10 points : 5- 20 minutes - Visual Representation of Project, this is either visual, an activity for the class or demonstration (must not be hazardous and must be approved). Verbal presentation about your topic.
10 points – Presentation will discuss the relationship between your topic and Chemistry, and explains visual representation, etc.
5 points - Organization of visual.
If can not present, you must create a visual that will be displayed.
10 points : 2-5 page research paper about the topic. This must include the Chemistry involved in your research.

Final on 5/22 and 5/23 on Entropy, Enthalpy and Gibbs free energy.

Environmental Science

We will be looking at the history of trees from an environmental perspective at first.

You may access the Syllabus here, just print the 4th page and bring it in signed for 10 free points.

Have a great Day!!!!

1/28/08 We are currently working on trees made from recycled products and learning about other common products made from wood.

We will then learn the history of Earth Day and Arbor Day.

The plants are starting to grow with our forest succession lab, make sure and look at your planters.

2/13/08: We are finishing the history of trees. Tests will be 2/14-2/15/08.  Articles will be interpreted an questions will be answered.  Be prepared for creative thinking.

2/18/08: We will start learning about the environment with "The Lorax" with questions and a little economics and environment.
Then Air, water and soil pollution
