Mr. Thornton's Introduction to Literature

British Literature 1 (Contemporary)

British Literature 2

AP English Language

Students can turn in late work for credit at any time.  However, all late work for Spring Semester must be turned in by May 1, 2008, to receive credit.  I grade work continuously, through the entire semester, and any work usually improves a grade.

Grades are changed and posted weekly in my classroom, so students can always check their grades.  A progress grade will be posted to Infinite Campus every Thursday.  Reports have traditionally been mailed home in week 9, and at the end of the semester.  I do not otherwise contact parents with progress reports, unless people specifically request an update from me via voicemail or email.

Style Guide

Here is an online style guide from Purdue to check your grammar and usage:  http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/

Literacy Rubrics

These are the rubrics that Mr. Thornton uses for most of his assignments:  Mr. Thornton's Literacy Rubrics 2007

Online Database for Research

For research papers, students should avail themselves of the online databases provided by DPS.  To access these databases, click on the following link for the DPS Library website, and then follow the links to Literature Reference, via Online Databaseshttp://lion.dpsk12.org
The first two sites contain many critical articles on literature.

Reading Lists

Many parents asked about reading lists for students.  Here is a website that I found, which features numerous lists.  Browse it for awhile, and try some classic literature:  http://www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/greatbks.html
