The Second Quarter of the academic portion of the HS piano curriculum will continue our study of the music of the Twentieth Century. Students can plan to discuss a theory topic that relates to each of our composers on Mondays. Students can also plan for 45 minutes of direct teaching on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and we will continue with our student presentations and performances on Fridays. Students are always encouraged to perform for the class.

The Life and Music of Sergei Prokofiev and Music in Communist Russia
Prokofiev's early years, Academy of Music, United States years, Paris years, return to USSR, the state of music in the USSR, detailed study of Prokofiev's compositional style. Kabalevsky, Khatchaturian and other Communist composers.

The Life and Music of Carl Orff
Paper over history of Carmina Burana
Weeks 7 and 8
Final preparations for recitals, completion of paper.
