WinterConcert08:
In an end-of-the-semester concert, the bands entertained for 2 nights while the very productive
band parents ran a very successful silent auction.  The second night was punctuated by a, first ever,
pre-concert dinner that was tremendous as well.

BandShowcase08:
This concert featured the large ensembles of the Bands Department, Concert Band,
Jazz Workshop Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.  An award for Outstanding Parent Diane Gansauer was given.

JazzSymp2008:
The Jazz Symposium this year was a “Tribute to Charlie Parker”.
The concert featured New York saxophonist Greg Abate.  Greg has made his name in becoming a hard bop saxophonist and clinician.  Playing lead alto with the Ray Charles in the 1970’s and leading his own group through performances at some of New York’s great jazz clubs, Greg’s recording “Evolution” was Grammy nominated in 2004.  Abate is also an adjunct professor of Jazz Studies at Rhode Island College and is also a very active jazz clinician with co. sponsorship from the Conn -Selmer Instrument Co., conducting workshops and master classes through the U.S and abroad.
Telling Stories:
Tellingc1a.jpg:
In this concert, presented by both the Creative Writing and Bands Departments, students wrote pieces and set them to original music.  Composer/musicians Jennie Dorris and Alaunde Copley-Woods worked closely with the students arranged in quintets, on communication skills in order to compose and write together in a creative, collaborative project.
The culminating concert was awesome and precedent setting for both departments!

The Jazz Symposium is an annual tradition is in its third year and offers
jazz students the unique opportunity to work closely with internationally
renowned jazz artists for 3 days, culminating in a collaborative concert.
