The busy year ended with two nights featuring the leaders of the Bands Department. Recordings soon to come...
The
Take Me Away Concerts December 14 and 15 were a great success.
The Silent Auction was a hit and the Bands Department made needed funds
for next semester. Thanks to the many parents who helped manage
the event and thanks to those who donated. Look forward to a CD
coming from this concert!

This
annual collaboration between the Vocal and Instrumental music
departments features the Jazz Workshop Orchestra, Vocal Jazz Ensemble,
Jazz Link Big Band and combos plus combos with vocal solos. Despite
inclimate weather the club was hoppin' and the crowd swingin'.

Last
in a 3 month series, this Dazzle show featured the Jazz Workshop
Orchestra and combos. Also featured were vocalists from the "Jazz
Cafe" to be held the next 2 days at the Soiled Dove in Lowry and other
local talented high school jazz players.

DSA's
Jazz Workshop Orchestra performs annually on Denver's premier jazz
radio station - KUVO. The "Collegiate Series" focuses on local
high school and college jazz programs, giving students the opportunity
to present an hour live radio show. Highlights of this night were
many from awesome string arrangements to sensitive arrangements
featuring vocalists and fine student improvisation.
Jazz Great Don Braden to Visit DSA Bands

World
renowned saxophonist Don Braden worked with the JWO as the JLBB looked
on, covering issues such as improvisation, arranging, and the music
business - what it takes to be a professional in today's jazz
scene. He then helped students with improvisation on a blues and
at the end all were swingin' hard.

The
DSA Wind Ensemble traveled to take part in an early competition-like
festival. Hosted by Rocky Mountain High School in Ft. Collins the
band not only performed but also saw 2 other concert band performances
and their clinics. Band directors from the University of New
Mexico and Colorado State University had great things to say to the DSA
Wind Ensemble and good suggestions for improvement.

Dazzle
Restaurant and Lounge - Denver's premier jazz club and DSA Band
Department offer a Jazz Series the last Monday of every month in the
Fall called In the Shed featuring the DSA Jazz Workshop Orchestra and
special guests. This month the East High School Combo is featured
along with DSA.

DSA percussionists offer a tremendously wide array of percussion music with the marimba as a focal point.

DSA
Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and various small groups are
featured. A special arrangement of Shakespeare's 12th Night is
accented with actors presenting actual scenes.

Grammy nominated Brazilian artist Jovino Santos Neto with Chuck Deardorf and Mark Ivester held a 2-day residency for the 2006 DSA Jazz Symposium
(2nd annual). Jovino's big band music was performed by the Jazz
Workshop Orchestra and Brazilian styles, music and musicians were
discussed, demonstrated, taught and eventually displayed in an
outstanding culmination concert featuring the big band, percussion ensemble, Jovino and
trio.
