Homework:  Lab group timeline.

Week of November 19-20
Students read about Erosional Landforms and Deltas and Floodplains.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Week of November 13-16
I was away all week on jury duty.

Students completed their labs about Investigation 5 & 6 and presented to the class.

Week of November 5 - 9

Monday - We are working on a lab about abrasion.

Homework:  Read "Digging Deeper" pg. 32-33 and answer the "As You Read" pg. 32 #1-2.  Answer "Review and Reflect" numbers 4,5,6,&8.

Wednesday - We finished our investigation about Rock Abrasion by taking notes.  We began to investigate Investigation 5, Erosional Landforms, and Investigation 6, Deltas and Floodplains.  Students will be doing a lab on Friday about this.

Friday - Students completed the investigation portion of the labs.  They will have next Wednesday to write there labs.  Investigation 5 will be on poster paper and Investigation 6 will be on regular paper.  One lab per group.

Week of October 29 - November 2

Wednesday - Students completed Investigation #4 "Rock Abrasion".  Study Guides will be passed out for the quiz on Friday.

Friday - Quiz.  We will grade the homework, and then go over the reading.  We will begin discussion about Erosional Landforms.

Week of October 22 - 23
This week students were introduced to rock abrasion.

Fall Break

Week of October 15 - 19
This is the final week of the first quarter.

Monday - Students will complete their lab reports.

Wednesday - Present labs to the class.  The students will be graded based on the rubric.

Homework - Read Digging Deeper.  Questions will be assigned.

Friday -  Class notes.   Start new investigation.

Week of October 8 - 12

Wednesday
- I passed back the quizzes from last week.  We are studying rock weathering and the students are creating labs that relate to rock weathering.  They will be conducting their own investigations as a lab team and then presenting them in a lab report to the class next week.  This assignment is worth 80 points and they students have a rubric to detail what I am looking for.

Friday - A step away from the investigation.  The students will be watching Planet Earth's "Pole to Pole" and "Mountains" in class.  They will have an assignment where they need to identify specific details about each sphere of the earth, and then follow it up with how the spheres are related.  We will continue with the investigation on Monday.

Week of October 1 - October 5

Monday - We completed creating our geologic maps.

Wednesday -  We completed our notes about topographic and geologic notes.  We received a study guide about the quiz that will be on Friday.  Below is the study guide.

Second quiz:  Geologic maps, topographic maps, scientific inquiry, and rock cycle.

*independent variable   *sedimentary rock   *intrusive igneous rock   *dependent variable   *igneous rock   *extrusive igneous rock   *metamorphic rock   *rock cycle   *hypothesis   *sediment   *magma   *erosion/weathering   *geosphere   *hydrosphere   *atmosphere   *biosphere   *geologic map   *topographic map   *contour lines   *data table   *key    *scale  The ones that are underlined, italicized and bold are the main ideas for this quiz!!!!

Friday - Quiz on Friday.  Starting erosion investigation.

Week of September 24-28

Wednesday - We will check our homework from the weekend.  We will then investigate geological maps of Colorado and the Denver area.  Investigation that includes creating Geologic Maps.

Friday - Students completed their drawings of geologic maps.

Week of September 17-21

Over the weekend homework:  Read Investigation #2's "Digging Deeper" pages 12-13.  Answer the "As You Read" questions on page 12 #1-3.  On page 14, answer the "Review & Reflect" questions # 6 & 7.

Have a great weekend!!!!

Week of September 10-14

Wednesday:  We will begin our Investigation #2 about topographic maps and geologic maps.  We will also look at the types of rocks that students brought in for homework.

Homework:  Quiz on Friday.  I will pass out a study guide on Wednesday, and will probably have it posted here.

First Quiz:  Scientific Inquiry and Rock Types Study Guide
