Week of September 21-25
Big Idea:  Through cooperation, we will work to achieve our Geography Goals

Mon - Set Up Notebook.  Characteristics of a "Dynamic Village."
Homework:  Type Out Characteristics of a " Dynamic Village."
Reminder:  Village Signs are due Wed/Thur

Tue - Share characteristics.  Pretest:  Using graphic organizers.  Class Sharing:  Check/discuss pretest

Wed/Thur - Share village signs.  Library - select article on a country.  Group Work:  Using country information, as a group complete the graphic organizer.

Fri - Class sharing/discussion - group graphic organizers.
 

Week of September 14 - 18

  Big Idea:  TEAM = Together Everyone Achieves More (introduction to Co-operative Learning)

Monday -  -  1. Positives/Negatives of Group Work 2.  Difference between "group work" and "cooperative learning." 
                      3.  Lessons from the geese.

Homework:  Using Lessons from The Geese, students are to compose a paragraph describing an incident when one of the lessons helped or did not help them in a particular situation. (one paragraph - four or more sentences)

Tuesday - Share/discuss homework.  Together in groups of four students are to identify the characteristics of a good leader and a good team    player.  Thoroughly discuss difference between co-operative learning and group work.

Wed/Thur -    Name Your Village

Homework:  Design name plate, banner for your village.  Due Wednesday/Thursday next week

Friday - Enjoy your day off!!!


Week of August 31 - September 11 - Since I was out sick this week, students did some geography review and activities on China

Week of Aug. 24 - 28:  Big Idea- "We're all from different places, but we're all in the same boat."  The activities center around helping the sixth grades to become comfortable at DSA.

Monday - Warm Up:  Are you becoming "comfortable" at DSA?  Write a paragraph to explain your answer.
         Class Activity:  Find Someone

Tuesday - Warm Up:  True/False
         Class Activity - Share true and false facts

Wednesday/Thursday - Warm Up:  You know you're at DSA when you see, feel, hear
          Class Activity:  Using interview questions, complete graphic organizer as you prepare to introduce one of your classmates to your peers.

Friday - Continue working on peer introduction paragraph.
         Homework:  Period 1 - finish peer interview questions.
                              Period 5 - finish peer introduction
                              Period 6/7 - finish peer introduction & practice peer presentation
