Greetings!
My name is Azar Kohzadi, and this is my third year at DSA as a humanities instructor. I am very enthusiastic about having the opportunity to work with you this year, and I look forward to a very productive and enriching semester!
I have been involved in education for about seven years now. Prior to coming to DSA, I worked with the media and technology department at George Washington High School as a resource specialist who provided career counseling and enrichment opportunities to students, particularly in communication arts. I also held faculty yoga classes after school.
One reason DSA is so appealing to me is that I've been intimately connected with the arts for most of my life. I earned my BA in Broadcast and Film and worked in television and advertising before continuing my schooling in education. In addition, I performed with my college theater department, produced and edited short films for CCN, did voice over work for PBS, played the saxophone and piano, wrote a weekly column for a local newspaper, sang with a concert choir, and choreographed dance performances--just to name a few! I'm quite excited to be surrounded by students with such similar passions as my own. (My husband is also a visual artist!)
I am truly ready for the school year to begin; however, I cannot believe how fast the summer flew by! (I state this every year...) This summer I participated in several prof.development graduate courses that were linked to the arts in education. I also took a couple creative writing courses and continued my yoga training. I'm excited to apply a lot of what I learned to my courses this school year.
In my spare time, I love to curl up with a good book, cook various ethnic dishes (when I have the time, energy, and ingredients!), unwind with yoga, hike with my husband, spend time with family, write poetry and take dance classes. I also love attending many DSA performances and exhibits; I try my hardest to support each department at least once throughout the school year! Many of you have probably already seen me at many events the past couple of years.
Now that you've learned a little about me, I cannot wait to learn more about all of you! I believe teaching is one of the most amazing jobs in the world and would never choose anything different. It is my greatest hope that this semester will bring great learning to all of us, artistically, academically, and personally. See you soon!
Truly,
Azar Kohzadi-Ritter
