General Rubric for Scarlatti Sonata

This assignment will receive a possible 30 points of credit.  The focus of this assignment is to provide a tool piece as a springboard to discuss the Scarlatti style.

 

1. 30 points:  The sonata is performed completely with few mistakes and with consideration given to touch, dynamics, and other musical elements.

 

2. 25 points:  The sonata is performed completely with some mistakes, but with consideration given to touch, dynamics, and other musical elements.

 

3. 20 points:  The sonata is performed somewhat incompletely with some mistakes, but with consideration given to touch, dynamics, and other musical elements.

 

4. 15 points:  The sonata is performed incompletely with several mistakes

 

5. 10 points:  The sonata is performed incompletely and inadequately, but there is evidence of an honest attempt to learn the piece.

 

6. 5 points:  The sonata is performed incompletely and inadequately, and there is no evidence of an honest attempt to learn the piece.

 

7.  0 points.  There has been no attempt made to learn the Scarlatti sonata.

 

Music for the piece will be distributed on Aug. 20 or 21, and the test will be given on Monday, Sept. 3.
