Welcome, DSA alumni! Please send me bio notes and such to post on the Alumni Updates page. PLEASE include your graduation year and arts major. If you already have a note here, send me updates as needed. And if you're on Myspace.com, or Facebook, send info here too, please! DSA gets out of school June 1 and will return for first day of classes August 19. Meanwhile, I'll check in once a week or so.

FIRST DSA REUNION A SUCCESS!
The first ever DSA alumni reunion (August 28-30, 2009) was a well-attended event, with 15-20 alumni coming for the DSA tour. Some had never been in the building before (we were at Byers when they graduated) and kept saying things like, "we never had this." The dinner on Saturday night was attended by 57 alumni, and 25-30 came to the picnic at Wash Park on Sunday, including  former DSA teachers Jana Clark and Jennifer Warren. Photos from these events on the photo page now. To the right, alumni on the stage of the Schomp, including Tiffani Parton in the front row. Congratulations to Tiffani Parton and her committee who organized this event.

FLOBOTS, a band which includes DSA orchestra alum Mackenzie Roberts and Jamie Lurie (Jonny 5) son of former DSA teacher Sally Baker, appeared on Jay Leno June 5, 2008. A sample of what they do is on youtube: "Handlebars," which is a fine video by a DSA cinema graduate, Iyabo Boyd. Watch for information about their new community service/arts center in Denver.

DSA started the 2009 - 2010 year with a new principal, William Kohut, previously the principal at South and a former band director, and a new assistant principal, Miranda Odom. Pete Castillo returns as the seond AP. Andre Shaw and Dave Hammond received Spirit of DSA awards from the Friends of DSA at our graduation on May 19. Andre Shaw, our long-time student advisor, retired in June, 2009.

98 - 99 Alumni on DSA tour:

Nothing is constant but change, and DSA is no exception. Many of you find fewer and fewer familiar faces as time goes by and that of course is as it should be. But we keep the spirit and character that you established in your tenure here, and passed on to each succeeding class. DSA is still a place at which you can wear a bike tire named Bob around your neck and no one will care. The bike tire named Bob, if you remember it, is still in the keeping of Creative Writing, being passed from graduating seniors to those who follow them.

Stay in touch,
