DSA Piano Parent Meeting

September 25, 2007

Minutes

Present:  Marla Sullivan, Melinda Boyd, Nancy McDaniel, Terri Bresch, Kathy DiMarco, Ragnar Storaasli, Jennifer Boone, Kim Grogan, Lucy and David Barton (Apologies for any misspelled names.  If that has occurred, please notify Kim Grogan at collinsgrogan@att.net  and she will note the correct spellings for the future.)

Pianos and Fundraising

The meeting opened with a request made to Nancy McDaniel to summarize the information and status of last spring’s discussion of fund raising for the purposes or purchasing a piano for the use of the DSA Piano department.

            *Wells music has stated that they would sell a piano to the parent group at cost. 

            *Peter Castillo had suggested in his discussion with Nancy M. last spring

                        that it would be best to designate and specific account for the piano

                        department for fund-raising.

            *Nancy and Terri Dresch will meet with Peter Castillo to discuss the matter

                        further and reach a clear understanding of how funds can be raised and

                        utilized.

            *A decision was made to invite Peter Castillo to the next Parent meeting in

                        January in order to address the issues regarding fundraising and

                        purchasing a piano.

            *Jennifer Boone suggested that parents speak to piano tuners and technicians they

                        know and use and let them know that the parent group is looking for

                        a high-quality piano.  Perhaps they may encounter an unused (or

                        under-used) piano in their work and could let the group know.

            *A suggestion was also made that perhaps covers could be purchased for the

                        DSA pianos in order to protect against spills and other accidental

                        damage.

            *Kathy DiMarco will speak to Ted Lassen regarding a possible silent auction in

                        November or at the time of the second recital. 

Events and Activities

The rest of the meeting was dedicated to planning social activities for this school year.

            *The back-to-school picnic was deemed by all to be a success and the suggestion

                        was made to do an end-of-year picnic in addition to the Cinzetti’s

                        department dinner.

            *A date of January 27 was proposed for the department Bowling Party.  Kathy

                        D. will check on availability of locations.

            *Evergreen recital---Jennifer Boone will look into arranging this opportunity

                        sometime after the second recitals in February or March

             *High school retreat—Jennifer Boone will continue to investigate the possibilities

                        of joining with another department (band?) or organizing something

                        just for high school piano students and will continue to update the group

                        regarding that information.  It would be helpful for parents to contact

                        her with suggestions and interest levels regarding the idea.  You can

            *Kim G. contacted Ted Lassen regarding future recital dates and he will let the

                        students and families know as soon as those dates are set.

Recitals:

            With recitals just around the corner, the parent group would like ask parents

            and families to contribute baked goods (homemade or purchased), soda or

            other goodies for receptions following each of the recitals on November 5

            (middle school) and November 6 (high school).  If you wish to contribute,

            please notify Jennifer Boone at jenboone@msn.com or 303-981-5478 for

            high school recital or Kim Grogan at collinsgrogan@att.net regarding the

            middle school recital.  Thank you in advance!

Next Piano Parent Meeting

The next Piano Parent meeting will be January 15, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in the Piano Room.

Nancy McDaniel will extend an invitation to Peter Castillo and Linee Perroncel to attend the meeting and will request that the date be placed on the DSA calendar.
