BANDS TO ATTEND COMPETITIONS
The time of band competitions is upon us.  DSA bands will take part in several competitions around the state.  Please know these are mandatory performances and help your student be ready!  All transportation is provided by DSA except where noted.

Colorado Bandmasters Association Middle School Band Festival (Concert Band Only)
Centaurus High School, Lafayette, Colorado
April 15, departing DSA at 8:30am and returning by 1pm.
Concert Dress

Metropolitan State College Bands Celebration (Wind Ensemble Only)
Metropolitan State College King Center, Auraria Campus, Denver
April 18, departing DSA at 10 am, performing at 11:30 am, lunch provided, specific instrument clinics and woodwind quintet coaching pm, dinner provided, concert at 7 pm, depart at 8 pm to return to DSA at 8:30 pm.  Casua dress.

Colorado Bandmasters State Concert Band (Wind Ensemble Only)
Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, Colorado
April 22, departing DSA at 10 am, performing at 2:15 pm, departing at 3:30, arriving at DSA at 5 pm.  Concert dress.

UNC Jazz Festival (JWO and JWO Combo Only)
University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado - No transportation provided.
Saturday, April 26 -
JWO Combo 8:30am (8am call), in the Senior Center
JWO Big Band 11am (10:15 call), in Hensel Phelps Auditorium

DSA Bands Perform for Special Events
The DSA groups have been out and about this month and in the coming weeks performing for very special events around the city.  Some of the recent happenings are:

The DSA Woodwind Quintets played for the Colorado Music Educators Association conference in Colorado Springs as well as the opening ceremonies for the DPS Mile High Scholars.  Various percussionists and instrumentalists performing at DSA for the theater production"Comedy of Errors".  Also, the senior percussion trio traveled to the State Capitol to talk with state legislators about the importance of arts in middle and high school public education.

Jazz Quartets have recently performed at the Governor's Mansion for the Colorado chapter of DECA in support of "Project Mercy", an effort to build a Library in Ethiopia and at the Denver Art Museum for family day.  A DSA Jazz Quintet performed at the Republic Plaza for a Colorado Council of the Arts reception featuring artists Jean Claude and Christo.

JWO performed and talked about the history of jazz music for a packed house at Monclair Elementary School as part of Black History Month and also entertained at a reception for the DPS Mile High Scholars.
