Sociology is a field of study that explains social, political, and economic events in terms of social structure, social forces, and group relations. The student will be introduced to the field by focusing on several important sociological topics including socialization, culture, class system, gender roles, and ethnic relations. Students will leave the class with:
- An understanding of the three main sociological perspectives.
- An understanding of several important sociological theories.
- The ability to apply these perspectives and theories to contemporary social problems.
- Insight into the link between social structures, social forces and individual circumstance.

Readings: We'll be using two main resources: Sociology The study of Human Relationships - 5th edition Holt Reinhart and Winston. ISBN 0-03-097589-1.
There aren't even a class room set of these so readings will have to be done during class.
Down To Earth Sociology Introductory readings James Henslin ISBN 0-7432-1208-8. There may be enough for students to check them out for short periods.
