The development of great readers as well as contributors to the written word. Students are exposed to all genres of writing through self-paced contracts. Poetry, novels, short stories, scripts, and collages are a few of the areas of exploration.

2004 DISTINGUISED
TEACHER AWARD

As you all know, Mrs. Clark was one of nine teachers to receive the DPS Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award. In celebration, there was an award’s banquet on May 7, 2004 at the Marriott Southeast. There was a reception followed by the awards program. During the program, Mrs. C was announced with some short remarks compiled from her letters. Mrs. C was called to the stage to receive her award. As a part of her tribute we asked each student to take 5 minutes and write one line about what Mrs. Clark has meant to them. Then a group of 5 students (two seniors and three 7th graders) sculpted the lines together to form a poem. At Mrs. Clark's dinner, the piece was read in the rounds by the five sculpting students. We now have Mrs. C’s album of letters and photos in the classroom at DSA. Please feel free to stop by and see it.
