DSA Update on today’s incident

Today there was a small fire near the boiler room at DSA at 1:10 this afternoon. All students were safely evacuated to Johnson and Wales University campus across the street from DSA. 6th grade students were with their teachers at Fred Thomas Park. Buses picked up students on the Olive Street side of DSA. Parent pickup took place on the north side of DSA. The DSA Administration in coordination with Denver Fire Department officials released students at 2:25 p.m. Classrooms have been locked and students are not allowed access to classrooms at this time. Due to damage to the electrical systems in both the Schomp Theater and Concert Hall tonight’s performances have been cancelled. We will update the status of Friday and Saturday’s Dance Performance as soon as we are able to determine the extent of the damage.

Due to work crews in the building Denver Public Schools has closed DSA this evening, Thursday, November 17. There will be no access to the building for the remainder of the evening. No one will be allowed access to the building until 7:00 am tomorrow. The DSA administration understands that many students have valuables in classrooms and the DSA Security and Facility crew has secured all classrooms until students can return to the building. Crews will work throughout the evening in order to have the building open tomorrow. Classes will resume on a normal schedule tomorrow.

We appreciate your patience and understanding in this developing situation.
