Hello and welcome to the admissions page for Denver School of the Arts.
We are excited that you are considering DSA as a school choice for your child for the upcoming school year. We encourage you to take a look at our DSA website and explore the information it has to offer. You may also find the ‘calendar’ option helpful in planning how many performances/shows happen in a typical school year.
We look forward to having you explore the option of attending Denver School of the Arts through our admissions process. Perhaps one of the best ways to hear about DSA is through our Preview Morning program. To learn more, click here.

AUDITIONS FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR
A 4 step process
Step 1 – THE ONLINE APPLICATION
The online application will open on November 5, 2018 by 1:00 pm and close at 9:00 am on January 4, 2019. At any point during this online audition application window, you must apply online.
For this online application – all you are doing is filling out basic information on your child: name, grade, address, parent name, etc. If you have a current DPS student, it will ask for their 6 digit ID. No other preparation/materials are needed to fill out this online application.
PLEASE make sure you work yourself through the entire audition application. You will create an account first. That is not the audition application. As soon as you create an account, you will proceed to the next step by adding your child’s name, grade, major, etc. Only completed audition applications will be considered for auditions. You should receive an automated email confirmation that you applied. This email will contain your students name, grade and major. This is your confirmation that you applied.
If you do not have access to a computer, you may come to DSA during the online application window and someone in the counseling center will help you get online. If you have any technology issues, please call the school and we will work you through the process. You are welcome to call the school to make sure your application was received online.
Students may apply and audition for one major only.
Note – Stagecraft and Design will be accepting applicants in high school only.
Note – Incoming 7th graders will audition for the waitlist only. Traditionally, the 7th grade is the hardest grade to get into at DSA. Why is that? Our 6th and 7th grade teams are the same size. Unless a current 6th grader decides to leave the school, there is no room for an auditioning 7th grader.
Once you’ve applied, you will not hear from us. The school will not send you an email or call. We will see you at the pre-audition meeting in January.
Please click on the department links above and read about the specific audition requirements for the major you’re interested in.
Step 2 – THE MANDATORY PREAUDITION MEETINGS
A parent or an adult parent designee for the applicant must be in attendance at the preaudition meeting in order to move ahead in the audition process. We allow another adult to stand in the place of the parent in case of emergencies/vacations/work/etc. But an adult must be AT THIS MEETING to represent the student and get the audition information and an audition time at the end of the meeting. The student applicant does not HAVE to attend the meeting but is highly encouraged to do so.
Each major will explain, in great detail, the audition process and requirements for their department. This meeting will be your chance to ask questions specific to your major, outside school commitments, rehearsal schedules, etc, etc. At the end of these meetings, your child will be given an audition time slot for January. You do not get to select your audition date. This is done for you by the DSA major teachers. Audition dates for each major are listed on each major’s admissions page (see links above).
You do NOT need to sign up for this meeting. Your online application is your signup. You simply come to DSA on your designated preaudition meeting date.
The DPS Office of Choice and Enrollment Services nor the DSA front office staff run the auditions. Please do not call them with questions about auditioning for DSA as they do not know. All audition questions will be answered at the pre-audition meetings in November/December. Please wait until these meetings to hear directly from the arts teachers.

Step 3 – THE DISTRICT SCHOOL OF CHOICE FORM
If you are a current DPS family and have a Parent Portal account, you will be able to do your choice online from February 1, 2019 – February 28, 2019. To create a Parent Portal account, go to myportal.dpsk12.org and click Getting Started.
If you are an out-of-district family, you will need to either request a Parent Portal account prior to the choice deadline or pick up a hard copy of the choice form at any DPS school and turn it into any school by February 28, 2019 at 4:00 pm. Visit schoolchoice.dpsk12.org to learn how to request a Parent Portal account.
The DPS SchoolChoice form will ask you to rank your top 5 preferred schools within DPS, including charter schools and magnet programs such as DSA. The DPS SchoolChoice form must be submitted no later than 4:00 pm on February 28, 2019. For more information about the new School Choice system, please visit http://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/. Their phone number is 720-423-3493.
Step 4 – THE AUDITION
You will receive your audition date and time at the preaudition meetings in January. The dates are not negotiable. You do not pick the audition date or time. It is chosen for you. The vast majority of our applicants will only be assigned one day. You can currently see the DATE of your audition – but not the time. Click on the major’s admission’s link (above). During the preaudition meeting, you will find out the time. The days are also listed on the major’s admissions website. There are some majors which may require a call back audition. All of call back details will be explained at the preaudition meetings.

Due to the large number of applicants and students who go through the audition process, we do not offer written or verbal feedback.
Step 1 – NOTIFICATION DATE – Tuesday, February 26, 2019
All students who audition will be notified by email on February 26, 2019 as to the outcome of their audition (either qualified to attend DSA or not qualified to attend DSA). This February 26th date gives families two days to turn in the Choice form with the desired ranked schools before the February 28, 2019 deadline.
If your child receives confirmation that he/she has qualified for DSA, this does not mean that he/she also has an enrollment “offer”. Students will be assigned to DSA based on their qualification status plus the desired school(s) indicated on the DPS School Choice form.
All students will be notified of their 2019/2020 school assignment through a written letter in mid April 2019. This will come from the DPS Office of Choice and Enrollment Services. The only students who will be considered for enrollment at DSA will be those who successfully qualify via the DSA audition process AND have ranked DSA on their DPS School Choice form. If you do not select DSA as your 1st preference school, please know that it is possible that your child may not be assigned to DSA. If you have any questions about the new School Choice student matching system, please call the DPS Office of Choice and Enrollment Services at 720-423-3493.
