Student Clubs

Participating in a club can bolster engagement and social/emotional well-being in students, so we strongly encourage all students to start or join a club that is of interest to them!
Students interested in starting a club will need to take the following steps to start a club or activity:

  1. Find a sponsor for your club or activity. They must be a DSA teacher or staff member.
  2. Decide on the name for the club and purpose of your club or activity.
  3. Determine the meeting place and time for your club or activity.
  4. When all information is gathered, please email information to Ms. Hamilton for approval at syeta_hamilton@dpsk12.net
  5. When your club is approved, Mrs. Hamilton will email you a New Club/Renewal registration form online.

All questions about clubs and activities should be directed to our Dean of Culture Syeta Hamilton.

Members will collaboratively shoot, develop, print and analyze one another’s film photos and have spotlights on additional photos and photographers provided by the club leaders.

Black History Month Creative Project
This project has been a DSA tradition where students come together and create a show that honors some aspects of African American History. During Black History Month in February, the student-led performance is presented to the DSA community. Any student can audition to be part of the cast after the student leaders have a rough ideal of the goals of the year’s show. Students work hard to include anyone who shows interest and consistent attendance to rehearsals.

Black Student Alliance

The Writing and Illustrations Club
Our goal is to help people navigate writing stories but people who don’t want to write but are in the club can be illustrators for people who DO want to write, and want to have illustrations in their stories. In an environment where you can focus and have fun, but also help them write a good and interesting story, complete with a climax, rising action, falling action, and conclusion. Students can also review others’ stories, and give HELPFUL feedback, and share parts they liked. Some voluntary activities we include are showing participants photos, and then they write a one paragraph story that connects to the photo in some way. Another thing is writing holiday related stories, where people make up a short story based on the theme on the spot (Ex (during halloween). Students will create a short horror story on the spot in front of the rest of the club.
