New Student Auditions

Auditions for the 2024-2025 school year will be held in January 2024 (exact dates and time to be announced this fall). Below are guidelines to what is typically expected for the in-person auditions.

The in-person audition will include a brief, informal interview to get a sense of the applicant’s work ethic, passion for music and the arts, ability to be part of a team, and ability to work with a variety of teachers/mentors. Stringed instruments eligible to audition at DSA are Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass (Acoustic), and Harp.

Middle School Applicants will be required to play:

  • One major scale and one melodic minor scale (two octaves 0-3 sharps or flats) plus a two octave G chromatic scale. Three octave scales are optional.
  • A solo of their choice that demonstrates lyric and technical abilities (or two contrasting solos).

High School Applications will be required to play:

  • One major scale and one melodic minor scale (three octaves 4-7 sharps or flats) plus a three octave G chromatic scale.
  • A solo of their choice that demonstrates lyric and technical abilities (or two contrasting solos).
Opportunities

Mentors Available to Middle School
In order to help our young students, our high school class is offering mentorship opportunities for our middle school students. The mentorships would take place virtually once or twice a week for 30 min. at a mutually agreed upon time outside of the online class schedule. These sessions would provide middle school students the chance to ask their more experienced peers questions about string playing, orchestra class and other issues associated with school.

Please email Enrique_Lasansky@dpsk12.net, if you are interested in providing your child with extra help and a friend as well. We have more than fifteen mature high schoolers who are eager to provide their services. I recommend that you take advantage of this opportunity. I’m certain that it will benefit everyone involved.
